ca 20 000 sq m
Uppsala University’s management and administration moved from scattered addresses to the newly built Segerstedt House in the middle of a cultural and historical centre in Uppsala, next to the Botanical Gardens. We have worked with floor plans, interior colour schemes and furnishings to create a harmony between the building’s special architectural values and Uppsala University’s own character.
Challenge
A fun challenge for us was to create an environment that works for both traditional and activity-based approaches, even though these approaches have completely different requirements. A further challenge was the triangular shape of the building, which creates a difficulty in orienting oneself in the building.
Solution
The interior concept, early named “A house in the park”, was developed to provide the conditions for orientation in the premises while creating a varied and healthy working environment. Through flexible floor plans, room types and furnishings, we created the conditions for changing the way of working in the future, from traditional sitting to activity-based, and presented a solution for the interior logistics, i.e. how employees and visitors move around the premises. The result is a building that both students and university staff enjoy.
The house has many pieces of furniture and spaces designed specifically for this project.
