Lindbacken School is a new F-6 school that has been built in Lindbacken and is located just east of Uppsala. The school is designed for children in grades F-6, but the ages attending the school will vary over the years. The building is partly two and three storeys respectively and is designed for 600 children with an area of approximately 5792 sqm.

The conditions Indicum received in September 2017 were that a new school would be ready to be put into use by the autumn term starting in 2018. For the interior design project, the furniture had to be in the lower price range, functional, robust, long-lasting and easy to clean, while the interior had to work well educationally and harmonise with the building’s colour scheme and choice of materials. Indicum also took into account the current cleaning guidelines from Uppsala Municipality when selecting furnishings and textiles.

Challenge

Lindbacken School promotes learning and learning environments in that the premises and interior are designed with a high degree of flexibility in mind and can easily switch between large and small groups in teaching. For example, there are a large number of group rooms adjacent to each classroom and the interior is designed to be easily refurnished.

Solution

The result is a functional school that is used in a flexible way by Uppsala municipality with a physical environment that supports the learning environment.
