Indicum awarded framework agreement with the Royal Swedish Opera

Indicum, together with Yllw Factory, has been awarded the framework agreement as interior partner to the Royal Swedish Opera. The assignment covers reused furniture and comprehensive interior design services in connection with the Opera’s extensive relocation ahead of the renovation of the Opera House.

The Royal Swedish Opera is facing one of the largest transformations in its modern history. During the renovation of the Opera House, the organisation will temporarily relocate to several different premises in Stockholm and surrounding areas. In this process, reuse, inventory and circular solutions will play a central role.

An assignment with high demands for structure and sustainability

The framework agreement includes inventory of the existing furniture stock, planning for reuse in new premises, as well as the sale and rental of reused furniture. The assignment also covers full interior design services, including needs analysis, design development, procurement and follow-up.

The client’s order of priority is clear:

  1. Reuse existing assets
  2. Procure circular furniture
  3. Rent circular furniture

This approach aligns fully with Indicums way of working and our long-term ambition to make circular interiors the norm within the public sector.

A complex organisation in transition

The Royal Swedish Opera is Sweden’s national stage for opera and ballet, with extensive production and operations. The relocation involves establishing activities in several different locations with varying needs, ranging from administrative environments and rehearsal spaces to specialised operational facilities.

Creating functional work environments in this context requires both strong design expertise and structured process management. The assignment sets high standards for inventory work, quality assurance and compliance with legislation related to reintroducing furniture to the market. This is an area where we have solid experience.

Circularity in practice

The framework agreement runs for four years and covers both reused furniture and associated interior design services. Indicum and Yllw Factory will work closely with the Opera’s organisation to ensure that as much as possible of the existing resources are put to continued use.

“This is an assignment where structure, sustainability expertise and architectural integrity must work together. We are proud to contribute to the Royal Swedish Opera’s transformation with a clear circular focus,” says Kristin Östberg, CEO and interior architect at Indicum.

Being entrusted to work with one of Sweden’s most significant cultural institutions is both an honour and a responsibility. We look forward to creating functional, sustainable and thoughtfully designed environments together during the Opera’s years of transition.
