Just as in life, expression and identity are central concepts in design. The exhibition poses the thought-provoking question: How does a person’s identity influence their way of expressing themselves through design, and how can expression, in turn, shape identity?

Between Expression and Identity – Uppsala Culture Night 2024

Art and design exhibition featuring new graduation projects from Konstfack and Beckmans College of Design, exploring the dynamics between expression and identity.

Date: September 14, 2024 Time: 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM Location: Indicum Interior Architects, Orphei Drängars Plats 1, 753 11 Uppsala

Among the exhibitors, we will meet the ceramicist and glass artist Laura Astrup Larsen, who will present her project “Longing for Touch” – a series of sensory objects created to spark curiosity in our senses.

Designer Malin Kristiansson contributes with the piece “Butterfly Effect” (Chaos Theory), a project that explores the unpredictability between force and effect.

Through shadows and reflections, Chatrine Schumacher tells a deeply personal story with her lantern “C/O,” where loss and rebuilding merge to provide insight into how our experiences of fear and hope influence our understanding of the world around us.

This exploration of our inner worlds continues in Jessica Westerberg’s work “Wordless Language of Glass,” which examines the unique ability of glass to reflect and communicate emotions. Through a combination of psychological portraits and organic structures, her work opens up a deeper understanding of the complex relationships that shape our lives.

Chi Jung Lu takes us on a different journey with her project “Ripples – The Interplay of Surface and Perception,” which explores how reflections and material surfaces change over time, thereby influencing our movement patterns and our perception of our surroundings. This work invites us to consider how small changes in surfaces can alter our entire experience of the world.

Taking a completely different direction, Hedda von Knorring presents her video work “Fields of Resilience,” which highlights the issues surrounding centralized agriculture. By contrasting microscopic perspectives with large-scale food production, the piece offers a critical view of our vulnerability in a globalized world.

Finally, through a visual exploration of social and cultural boundaries in Stockholm, Rebecca Lagerstedt presents her work “Stockholm’s Unspoken Boundaries.” Using abstract animations based on interviews with young adults, Lagerstedt highlights issues of segregation and class differences in our time.

Just as in life, expression and identity are central concepts in design. The exhibition poses the thought-provoking question: How does a person’s identity influence their way of expressing themselves through design, and how can expression, in turn, shape identity?

Invite your friends and family to join us for an evening filled with inspiration and creativity. Meet the exceptional exhibitors and immerse yourself in their thought-provoking art!
