The importance of inventory for sustainability
In 2022, we initiated our collaboration with the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency, a framework agreement where we are the contracted provider of architectural services. Shortly before the pandemic, the Environmental Protection Agency had moved to new premises and carried out an extensive interior architecture project, including the addition of new furnishings and the reuse of existing furniture from the previous location. Tengbom was responsible for the interior architecture.
After the pandemic, the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency, like other organizations, has realized that their premises are not fully utilized due to the increased remote work practices brought about by the pandemic. To help the Environmental Protection Agency adapt its space to the new circumstances, we have conducted a thorough inventory of all the interior elements, including furniture and textile furnishings. This comprehensive inventory list provides the Environmental Protection Agency with a clear overview of the furniture types, their respective locations, and specifications. Consequently, they can easily make adjustments to their premises using the existing inventory of furnishings.
Having an up-to-date inventory list is crucial for promoting sustainability and optimizing resource utilization. This list can be regularly updated with information on the condition and utilization level of items, allowing for long-term planning regarding refurbishment, procurement, and disposal. Building upon this inventory list, we have embarked on a comprehensive reconfiguration project. Our objective is to address the evolving needs resulting from the pandemic by strategically rearranging the existing furniture. This approach involves the creation of dedicated spaces specifically designed for video conferences and hybrid meetings, all while minimizing any unnecessary environmental burden.
