How do we create an oasis where the balance between meaning, environment, design and function becomes one? How can our oasis raise questions about ecology and climate change?

TEAM INDICUM & MARELD

Joint competition entry for Steet Moves with Mareld

As a creative collaborative team of interior designers and landscape architects, we meet in dialogue. A curious openness to the expertise of the different disciplines is the basis of our collaboration. Through conversation we gain increased insights into the users of architecture and different perspectives on spatiality. We meet clients and local representatives with a humble and professional manner. A common understanding of sustainability at all levels underpins how we approach a new site. Interior designers and landscape architects meet each other in working with tactility and materiality. How close should we experience and how strongly? Exterior qualities have long found their way in through front doors and entrances, just as elements of the interior environment find their way out. The contribution of vegetation and nature to the interior has a strong impact on the spatial experience. Through this collaboration, we want to allow attention to detail, colour choice and design language to build a more sustainable urban space.

How do we create an oasis where the balance between meaning, environment, design and function becomes one? How can our oasis raise questions about ecology and climate change? In our attempt to design this, we strongly believe in how landscape architecture and interior design can be united in a passion for sensuality. We are interpreters of human needs. We believe that our respective disciplines can cross-pollinate and that the result of our collaboration will be a stronger human experience. The human scale is our common ground and through sensory impressions and observations we build an eye-opener to the larger and more complex issues of ecosystem services and long-term sustainable urban spaces. Our oasis will demonstrate the processes in nature that we humans depend on and that make us feel good. People in the city should be given the opportunity to interact with and engage with their surroundings. The site and the city’s conditions determine and through a dialogue-based design process we gain an understanding of the needs of this particular street environment. We believe this contributes to the long-term sustainable development of cities and communities in all sizes.
